Developer plans to build 250,000-square-foot indoor sports center in central Pa.

A 250,000-square-foot indoor sports center is planned for York County.

York County real estate development company, Inch & Co. Inc. is proposing to build the sports center on the site of the former Central High School sports stadium at 1100 Columbia Ave. in North York Borough.

“We see a big need for what’s planned with this facility, and York County will love what is on the horizon for our community,” John Inch Jr., owner of Inch & Co., said in a news release. “Our focus will be on athletics, health, and wellness and further enhancing York’s identity as a regional destination. The economic boom to the York area will be tremendous.”

The 13-acre facility will include:

  • A 98,000 square foot dome, housing a turf field, which can be utilized for football, lacrosse, baseball, soccer or field hockey
  • A 70,000 square foot hardwood court, which can be utilized as 16 volleyball courts, eight basketball courts, as well as pickleball and tennis courts
  • Fitness center and sports performance area
  • Sports recovery and physical therapy center
  • Chiropractic services
  • Café, lounge, and apparel store

The site is about 30 minutes from downtown Harrisburg.

The land development plan was recommended by the North York Borough Planning Commission last week and ultimately has to be approved by borough council.

The company plans to break ground this spring.

The developer, Inch & Co is based in Manchester Township, York County.
