In 10 days’ time, the route between Rennes Bretagne Airport (RNS) in northwestern France and Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) in the Netherlands will see a change of operators. Air France currently serves this corridor, but, on March 26th, the French flag carrier’s SkyTeam partner KLM will assume responsibility for the route.
The current state of affairs
Data from FlightRadar24.com shows that the city in Brittany presently sees direct flights to Amsterdam on five days a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These are operated by Air France, or, more specifically, its regional subsidiary Air France Hop, using Embraer E170 regional jets. Flight AF1030 is scheduled to depart Rennes Bretagne Airport at 10:20 local time on most days.

The only exception is Sunday, when it leaves Rennes at 09:25. Either way, the flights have a scheduled duration of one hour and 35 minutes. Meanwhile, the Amsterdam-Rennes legs (AF1031) leave the Dutch capital at 12:35, or 11:40 on Sundays, and then touch back down in Rennes at 14:05 and 13:10 local time respectively.

A quick look at Air France’s booking website shows that, on days when direct flights aren’t available, passengers can fly from Amsterdam to Rennes in less than four hours via its hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). The trip can also be made by getting the train to CDG and flying from there to Schiphol in under six hours.
Time for a change
Rennes’ direct flights to Amsterdam offer passengers the chance to connect onwards onto a wide range of destinations worldwide. Going forward, these connections are set to be made even easier, with KLM Cityhopper replacing Air France Hop on the route. The Dutch regional carrier will serve the route daily.
These flights will come in the form of later rotations, with Monday-Saturday seeing flight KL1255 leave Amsterdam at 14:25, and arrive at 16:00. After a quick turnaround in Rennes, KL1256 will depart at 16:30, touching down at Schiphol at 18:10. On Sundays the timings for these will be 11:45-13:20 and 13:50-15:30.

In addition to flying more often, KLM Cityhopper will also offer slightly more capacity than Air France Hop on the Rennes-Amsterdam route. Indeed, it plans to deploy 88-seat Embraer E175s on this corridor, while Air France Hop’s E170s have space for 76 passengers. The flights will commence in 10 days on March 26th.
More connectivity to come
As it happens, Amsterdam Schiphol isn’t the only European mega-hub with which Rennes is set to enjoy increased levels of connectivity in the near future.
Indeed, the airport’s website notes that, as of April 23rd, it will also have direct flights to Frankfurt (FRA). These will be operated by Lufthansa CityLine using 90-seat Bombardier CRJ900s, operating every day except Monday and Wednesday.
