Top officials from different countries are reacting to the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in the Russian-controlled Kherson province of southern Ukraine.
The United Kingdom’s foreign minister, James Cleverly, called the destruction of the dam “an abhorrent act” in a statement on Twitter. He added that “intentionally attacking exclusively civilian infrastructure is a war crime.”

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, expressed a similar sentiment and said he was shocked by the incident. In a tweet, he also said that Russia and its “proxies” will be held “accountable.”
Shocked by the unprecedented attack of the Nova Kakhovka dam.
The destruction of civilian infrastructure clearly qualifies as a war crime – and we will hold Russia and its proxies accountable.

Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lithuania’s foreign minister, said “terrorists don’t stop unless they are stopped.”
“They don’t negotiate with anything except force,” he said in a tweet.
Terrorists don’t stop unless they are stopped. They don’t negotiate with anything except force. They cause huge catastrophes without regret. I’ll say it again: Lasting peace in Europe requires a Ukrainian victory both on the battlefield and in court. Nothing else will work.
