See Jim Cantore get hit by tree branch during Hurricane Ian report

If a major hurricane hits the United States, The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore is on it.

Such is the case Wednesday when Cantore broadcast from Punta Gorda, Florida, where he is seen fighting the winds of Hurricane Ian, which is a Category 4. His broadcast is live streamed by fuboTV.

In fact, managing to stand up straight, while dodging debris is proving problematic for the hurricane chaser as seen by some video footage.

“You know what?” Cantore said on the live broadcast. “I think I’m just going to come in here for a second. Give me a second.”

His anchor asked him if he is OK.

“I’m fine. I’m fine. You just can’t stand up. I’m going to let you guys look at the pictures.”

The Cat 4 hurricane was registering winds of 150 miles per hour as of 2:10 p.m. (3:10 p.m. ET).

During his broadcast, winds were a sustained 61 miles per hour and gusts in excess of 110 miles per hour. A co-worker comes flying into the shot because of the wind.

Hurricane Ian has made landfall in southwestern Florida as a massive Category 4 storm. About 2.5 million people had been ordered to evacuate the area before the storm hit the coast on Wednesday with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph (241 kph).

The storm was heading inland, where it was expected to weaken, but residents in central Florida could still experience hurricane-force winds. Before making its way through the Gulf of Mexico to hit Florida, Hurricane Ian tore into western Cuba as a major hurricane Tuesday, killing two people and bringing down the country’s electrical grid.
